Let intellectual discussions not be a platform for showing off who is more brilliant, but a platform for sharing information & learning. A successful intellectual discussion for me is the one that has constructed a new piece of information in my mind, as well as the opportunity to practice the art of critical thinking. It’s not groundbreaking if you’ve not learn anything new, no? Not only about the discussion itself, but also about how we perceive things.
However, opinions that are formed should take into account of objective knowledge, logical reasoning, and/or relevant theories. Most importantly, when engaging in such a discussion, leave personal emotions out of it as it reduces the quality of the discourse.
Sometimes a discussion won’t arrive to a conclusion, but let that be the drive for us to apply critical thinking skills and continue the search for answers.
